Director of Public Affairs & Community Service

WCVB, the powerhouse Hearst-owned ABC affiliate and Boston's Community Leader, is seeking a Director of Public Affairs and Community Service to lead our community engagement efforts. This role is central to maintaining and growing our impactful partnerships while developing new initiatives that advance our commitment to community service.

The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, strategic thinker, and relationship builder with excellent organizational and writing skills. This individual will serve as the principal ambassador, manager, and executor of all community initiatives for WCVB, including leadership of community projects, local events, and nonprofit (501c3) partnerships. The Director will work closely with station leadership, oversee the weekly community-focused program City Line, and serve on WCVB's Editorial Board.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies to strengthen community partnerships, programs, and activities that elevate WCVB's role as Boston's Community Leader.
  • Build and nurture relationships with community members, nonprofit organizations, and civic leaders.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between WCVB and all community/public affairs events and partnerships.
  • Maintain consistent visibility at community events, often requiring early morning and evening participation.
  • Supervise the production and direction of the weekly community affairs program City Line.
  • Lead content initiatives for digital platforms highlighting community service efforts.
  • Oversee production and placement of Public Service Announcements (PSAs).
  • Collaborate with internal departments to achieve community engagement goals.
  • Contribute as a key member of WCVB's Editorial Board.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in public relations, television, or a related field.
  • Proven experience working with nonprofit organizations and community leaders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities and a collaborative mindset.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong ability to represent the station professionally in public forums and community settings.
  • Military training and experience will be considered.
