Manager - Blood Management Services

Reporting to the Senior Laboratory Services Director, the Blood Management Service Manager is responsible for working and collaborating with the service delivery organizations (SDOs) in the coordination of the provincial planning, development, maintenance and evaluation of blood management services among the team and throughout the province. Through this coordination, the manager will also play a key leadership role ensuring streamlined services meet accreditation standards. Working with a multidisciplinary team of health professionals, this role is responsible for implementing strategic planning initiatives, allocation of resources (staff, supplies, equipment and space), the development of blood management standards and maximizing interprofessional scope of practice, integration of quality improvement, risk management, supporting ongoing education needs and research as well as financial responsibilities for cost centres under his/her purview.

Experience

  • 5 years of progressive management experience in a large enterprise, preferably in a health-care setting including:
    • 5 years recent related nursing experience within a health-care setting.
    • 3 years of experience working with diverse, large, multicultural, cross-functional and interdisciplinary teams including physician leadership, senior management, partner service delivery organizations, and patients on blood management service integration initiatives.
    • 3 years of experience in creating policies, benchmarks and processes to improve quality and efficiencies and advocating for patient focused care.
    • 3 years of experience managing staff and working within the guidelines of a collective bargaining agreement.
    • 2 years of experience developing and utilizing key performance indicators and data monitoring to ensure sustainment of quality improvements.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Post-secondary degree in Nursing or related discipline from an accredited educational institution required.
  • Post-graduate degree preferred.
  • Health Administration/Leadership and Lean Six Sigma training preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body as appropriate.
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support is required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated mid-level leadership capabilities. The provincial health system in Manitoba has adopted the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework.
  • Manitoba healthcare environment preferred, including familiarity with The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA).
  • Knowledge of regional and provincial blood management services and standards.
  • Experience in research methodology preferred.
  • Experience tracking case histories within multiple computerized information systems would be an asset.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings, and to lift and carry items of up to approximately 10 kg.
  • Interruptions to respond to questions from executives, and partner organizations are common; dedicated and focused time for planning and concentration can be scheduled.
  • Must have a valid Manitoba driver's license and use of a personal motor vehicle for regular travel within the province.
