Clinical Service Leader - Clinical Nutrition

Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Manager Health Services – Clinical Nutrition (or Designate), the incumbent is responsible for:

  • Overseeing the daily clinical service delivery and environmental/operational issues in a designated service area to ensure optimum patient/resident/client care in a safe therapeutic environment.
  • Providing guidance to clinical dietitians and support staff within the designated service area through leadership, mentoring, education, evaluation and research.
  • Contributing to the delivery of quality clinical nutrition services by examining, developing, refining and evaluating the body of knowledge and clinical practices and assisting in program planning and development.
  • Actively participates/completes, in consultation with Manager Health Services, recruitment, performance conversations, performance improvement plans, learning plans and attendance management including associated documentation.
  • Coordinating clinical work schedules, workload and service rotations.
  • Maintaining a clinical workload, involving nutrition assessment, intervention and follow up within the designated areas according to established standards of care.

Experience

A minimum of three years recent, relevant clinical nutrition experience. Experience in clinical nutrition program planning, development and evaluation preferred. Previous management/supervisory experience preferred. Experience working with computerized clinical software preferred. Experience with financial reporting and financial management systems preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

Graduate of a recognized dietetic internship program or practical training program including Masters of Applied (Human) Nutrition programs, which have been accredited by the applicable certifying body.

SPECIAL TRAINING: Working knowledge of healthcare administration and systems is an asset. Completion of coursework or attendance at workshops/seminars in management is an asset.

Qualifications and Skills

Demonstrated leadership, coaching and mentoring abilities in an interdisciplinary team environment. Ability to initiate and support change. Knowledge of the regulations and scope of practice documents that guide the practice of Clinical Nutrition and relevant support workers. Good organizational, problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills. Ability to critically evaluate, analyze and apply relevant knowledge to practice. Ability to function in a computerized environment. Demonstrated ability to ensure that the provision of clinical nutrition services meets the professional standards of practice. Ability to work with minimal direction. Excellent interpersonal, team building and role-modelling skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to facilitate continual improvements in the performance of professional services. Demonstrated expertise in adult education preferred. Good understanding of education and research processes. Demonstrated initiative and flexibility.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform the essential physical requirements of the position. Must be able to work under stress and time constraints. May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress. May encounter aggressive and/or agitated patients/residents/clients/visitors/staff. Must be able to travel to meetings (on-site and off-site). May be required to work evenings or weekends. May be required to occasionally work extended hours. This maternity/parental term may expire sooner than the date indicated subject to a minimum of two (2) weeks' notice. This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
