HHC's Legal Department is looking for a motivated and talented law student to join our team as a summer legal intern to support our in-house attorneys. In this role you would be expected to assist with drafting assignments to include contracts, policies, and miscellaneous legal documents. In addition, you may be called upon to assist HHC's Environmental Court group with assignments related to civil lawsuits against property owners to enforce compliance with local and state code standards for the maintenance of property.
All legal work assignments will be under the supervision of the general counsel or designated counsel within the department
Rising 2L or 3L student. If candidate is interested in courtroom experience with the Environmental Court group, they must be a certified legal intern under Indiana Supreme Court Admission and Discipline Rule 2.1(a) (requirements below). Otherwise, they are limited to observation and legal research tasks only.
Familiarity with municipal government, state laws, the Indiana Trial Rules, Indiana Rules of Evidence, and rules governing electronic case filings (required). Ability to work well independently and in a team environment. Ability to find, analyze and synthesize legal information from various sources, including case law, statutes, and legal databases. Proficiency in drafting legal documents ensuring clarity, accuracy, and conciseness. Ability to identify key issues in legal cases, analyze complex information, and draw logical conclusions. Strong written and verbal communications. Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and stay organized.
This is a fully in-person office environment position with no work from home option. Occasional physical attendance in the Marion Superior Courts (Community Justice Campus) for litigation.
