WIC Assistant Administrator

Responsible for planning, organizing, and managing directly or indirectly and with oversight over Women Infant Children (WIC) program; WIC Breastfeeding Manager; WIC Mobile Unit Manager, Clinic Managers. In addition, oversight of Vendor, and WIC Office Coordinator.

Essential duties include:

  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating the objectives and activities of the WIC Program.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations, policies, budgeting, and accounting procedures.
  • Responsible for personnel administration including recruitment, interviewing, selection, and supervision of program staff.
  • Overseeing the vendor management of the WIC Program.
  • Responsible for the overall operation of the automated food delivery and management information system.
  • Planning, organizing, and ensuring the completion of responsibilities assigned as role responsibilities of direct reports.
  • Working in conjunction with WIC Program Managers, and Breastfeeding Manager in planning, implementing, and evaluating the nutrition education component of the program.
  • Coordinating the WIC Program with other health programs within the division and community service agencies.
  • Assisting Grants Manager with grant budget recommendations.
  • Previewing monthly expenditure reports and assisting WIC administrator to monitor WIC budgets.
  • Responsible for overall clinic coverage of both clerical and nutritional staff at all WIC sites.

Other duties and responsibilities include:

  • Performing other duties necessary and incidental to the work described.
  • Working with purchasing software and inventory specialist to ensure all purchases are tracked.
  • Representing MCH PD on committees and actively participating to promote MCPHD initiatives.
  • Collaborating with nutrition professionals in Nutrition Services and public health settings.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all client records and information.

Qualifications include:

  • Licenses/Certification either required upon hire: Registration as Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Indiana RN license by the Indiana Professional License Agency Board of Nursing.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree graduate which includes a study in Nutrition.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable car.
  • 3-5 years previous experience with demonstrated ability in program development and staff management.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to take initiative and prioritize workload.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the WIC Program and the Division of Public Health.
  • Skills in financial management and management of personnel.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgments and tact in communicating with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Knowledge of program planning and evaluation.
  • Good judgment and discretion in communication.
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.
  • Flexibility to adjust to changing program/department needs.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 45 pounds.
  • Ability to resolve conflicting policies and procedures between federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Organizational ability to manage decentralized programs.
  • Compliance with program guidelines to ensure continual funding.
  • High level of concentration, accuracy, attention to detail, ability to analyze and interpret data.

Working environment includes:

  • Travel is required between various program locations.
  • Exposure to communicable illness and disease due to direct and frequent client contact.
  • Some physical effort is associated with lifting and carrying supplies.
