Phlebotomist I - Phlebotomy & Lab Support

Trainee

The Trainee will learn through interactive online/didactic instruction, student laboratory, and clinical experiences to provide quality phlebotomy service. The Trainee will ensure optimal support of laboratory testing activities through timely, accurate specimen collection of blood specimens. Will interact with customers in a friendly, courteous, professional, and appropriate manner at all times.

Primary Accountabilities:

1. Complies with all Health First, Health First Laboratory policies and procedures, along with all pertinent federal and state accreditation agency requirements.
2. Complies with policies, procedures, processes in the collection and processing of patient specimens and provision of patient services, including offsite phlebotomy services as applicable.
3. Meets goals and shows commitment to the Phlebotomy Training Program.
4. Assures valid patient results as evidenced by zero patient or sample identification errors in the pre-analytical phase of laboratory procedures per training period.
5. Demonstrates the appropriate skill sets as determined by Clinical Assessment.
6. Performs basic computer literacy skills to perform essential training and job functions.
7. Meets Attendance Policy expectations as outlined in the Phlebotomy Program Syllabus and demonstrates effective time management.
8. Complies with the Health First I-Care values and demonstrates effective communication with coworkers and management to include proper escalation when necessary.
9. Additional duties as assigned by clinical instructors and other laboratory associates.
10. Must be able to successfully complete the training course and remain employed with Health First for 12 consecutive months following the training program.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Work Experience: None
• Licensure: None
• Certification: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
• Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
• Strong computer skills.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize and organize work.

Physical Requirements:

• Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, and stooping.
• Long periods of computer time or at workstation.
• Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
• May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to moderate noise.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
