Supervises the clinical operations of Respiratory Care Services (RCS) and Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) departments. Coordinates and monitors the quality of respiratory therapy practice, programs, services and activities to ensure continuity of services for patients and consistency with strategic plans, goals and objectives of The Queen's Medical Center (QMC). Ensures operations and functions are in compliance with regulatory requirements and the policies and procedures of The Queen's Medical Center (QMC). Serves as the department head in the absence of the Manager as needed.
Essential: standing, walking, climbing stairs, squatting, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking; lifting weight of up to 25 pounds; pushing/pulling usual weight up to 50 pounds of force; static gripping of an object for prolonged periods; frequent gripping of an object. Frequent: sitting. Occasional: stooping/bending, kneeling, twisting body; carrying weight of up to 25 pounds; reaching above, at, and below shoulder level; repetitive arm/hand motions. Operates invasive and non-invasive ventilators, special beds, blood gas analyzers, gas cylinders, percussors, compressors, medications and specialty gas delivery equipment, stethoscopes and needles/syringes, computers and copy/fax machine.
Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions. Exposed to noise and/or vibration from various alarms, mechanical percussors; hazardous physical conditions from communicable diseases, body fluids, aerosolized medications, and syringes, blood products, and communicable diseases. Work environment may be stressful.
A. Education/Certification and Licensure: Bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy, healthcare, business or related field preferred. Current Hawaii license as a Respiratory Therapist. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Credential as an Adult Critical Care Specialist (RRT-ACCS), Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) preferred. Current certification in BLS/HCP; Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS); and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). B. Experience: Four (4) years clinical experience as a Respiratory Therapist in a critical care setting, preferably in a comparable facility. One (1) year supervisory/leadership experience (e.g. responsibility for major project(s)). Prior project management and/or Clinical Ladder experience preferred.
