Job Responsibilities

I. Job Summary/Responsibilities: Performs a variety of maintenance, repair, installation, calibration, and fabrication duties relating to highly complex, sophisticated, specialized equipment and systems.

II. Typical Physical Demands: Essential: standing, sitting, walking, stooping/bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground; squatting, twisting body, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting usual weight of 15 pounds up to 50 pounds; pushing/pulling usual weight up to 50 pounds of force; carrying usual weight of 15 pounds; reaching above, at and below shoulder level; repetitive arm/hand motions; static gripping of an object for prolonged periods; frequent gripping of an object. Operates electronic test equipment, hand and power tools, various office equipment.

III. Typical Working Conditions: Subjected to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Exposure to high amounts of electrical currents, chemicals, hazardous materials, communicable diseases, and body fluids. Exposure to x-ray and laser radiation.

IV. Minimum Qualifications A. Education/Certification and Licensure: Associate's degree in Biomedical or Electronics Technology; or completion of the Department of Defense Biomedical Equipment Technician training program; or two (2) years training as a biomedical or electronic technician may be substituted for educational or training program requirement. OR Certified or Certified Eligible Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). Assignment to Biomed Clinical Tech (Punchbowl) or Biomed Engineering (West) departments: Valid U.S. driver's license required in accordance with Hawaii state law rules and regulations. Driver's abstract or evidence of good driving record. Meets and complies with qualifications set forth in QMC Fleet Safety Policy. B. Experience: In addition to educational requirement, five (5) years work experience as a Biomedical Technician, preferably in a comparable organization. Experience as a lead person or practice in an area of specialized equipment. Experience to demonstrate the following: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and departments.
