The Trauma Unit Physician Assistant assists, monitors, and manages the day-to-day needs of patients as requested by, in conjunction with, and under the supervision of a physician. Performs the duties and responsibilities of a Physician Assistant according to customary and generally accepted medical standards. The PA works collaboratively with the practice/hospital team to assess, plan, and implement care for individuals with health and safety needs.
The Hackensack University Medical Center APP Trauma Service provides direct and indirect patient care optimizing patient safety to a patient population consisting of, but not limited to, clients from GI/GU, thoracic, vascular, neurosurgery, GYN oncology, trauma, OB-GYN, and orthopedic subspecialties. 24/7/365 coverage rotating with the APP team.
Responsibilities include providing medical services under the supervision of a licensed physician, performing and documenting accurate, complete, and relevant history and physical assessments, ordering, performing, and interpreting laboratory tests and diagnostic studies/procedures, managing general medical and surgical conditions, prescribing medication safely and effectively, promoting Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) PA practice recognition, providing care that is patient- and family-centered, practicing as a healthcare provider according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff, applying evidence-based and value-based medicine, evaluating patient/family transition of care planning, demonstrating clinical expertise through advanced assessment and procedural skills, translating best practice into clinical practice, providing culturally sensitive and educationally appropriate health management education to patients and families, facilitating consistent, coordinated care and clear communication among all members of the healthcare team, serving as an advocate for patients and families, serving as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team, participating in organizational and departmental meetings, committees, and workgroups, demonstrating the highest level of accountability for professional practice, promoting a collaborative work environment, mentoring other PAs, precepts students in PA programs and participating in educational programs as a clinical expert, identifying patient/family educational needs and collaborating to implement appropriate teaching materials, promoting innovation by integrating new clinical knowledge into practice, participating in clinical research activities and disseminating findings through practice, education, presentations, and publications, identifying ethical care issues and coordinating interdisciplinary meetings to resolve them, complying with HMH and department-specific scope of services, policies and procedures as applicable to role, adhering to all HMH infection control and safety policies.
Qualifications include successful completion of an approved physician's assistant program, excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms, Physician Assistant License, National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
Compensation is a minimum rate of $164,424.00 annually. HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
