To carry out all distribution operational engineering activities across various work streams including but not limited to fault restoration and repair, maintenance, and asset replacement projects. Work is carried out in a variety of environments, in office, or on site, and on the public roadways in all weathers. Reasonable fitness is required for on-site work and the carrying of heavy test equipment. This role acts a key interface between Distribution and Asset Management, ensuring day to day delivery of project work and work programmes.
1. Carry out fault finding, investigation, repairs and modifications to the conveyance and supply systems to ensure reliability of all equipment. 2. Arrange and carry out distribution maintenance activities. 3. Delivers asset replacement projects on the distribution network 4. To help develop a team of Distribution Technicians, and act as a coach to support their learning and development. 5. To undertake system related projects, including managing project work on the power station site and on the distribution system, to improve reliability and efficiency of supply and in accordance with the appropriate industry standards. 6. Carry out High and Medium voltage switching and make safe apparatus for the issue and cancelling of safety documents. 7. Check details on site of new and existing substations and input data into the plant database for the purpose of maintaining accurate records of plant assets. 8. Communicate with developers, contractors, local authorities, and legal professionals for the purpose of projects, outages and road works. 9. Act as a coach to graduate engineers and advising engineers and craft staff on distribution technical matters. 10. Has a high level of Health & Safety responsibility and works within the company's Health and Safety policies and procedures, also supervises and coaches on-site staff in Health and Safety matters. 11. Participate in a compulsory formal standby rota. 12. Demonstrate the core values and behaviours of Guernsey Electricity Limited.
The post holder will be given all the necessary training over a 3 year period to be able to undertake the full range of responsibility of a fully qualifed engineer.
