M&T Engineer
The M&T Engineer will contribute to the development of custom M&T drawings, specification packages, and purchasing documentation to help produce mold & tooling packages that meet functional performance requirements and results in a successful Product Qualification Procedure (PQP).
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design product-specific mold layouts, including engineering details and dimensions – which allows the mold to run on multiple platforms as directed by the project team, for straight-forward projects under the guidance of a more senior engineer
- Create drawings to reflect critical mold dimensions used to form the neck of the bottle
- Develop a specification packages for suppliers to use in the quoting and construction of custom blow molds and downstream equipment tooling
- Design, create prints and source the fabrication of other critical tooling components, such as extrusion head tooling
- Manage the competitive bidding process for all molds and tooling and issue purchase orders to the winning suppliers
- Oversee the inspection of all supplied components and manage any corrective actions determined as a result of a vendor quality escape
- Manage and control all of the engineering drawing, prints, 3D files, specifications, inspections and PO's for the molds and tooling associated with the bottle
- Attend, as a team member, all applicable project meetings and provide deliverables as dictated by the project owner
- Use lessons-learned from projects to update appropriate mold and tooling standards and specification packages
- Assist the process engineers in the problem solving process for simple production issues
- Support the R&D team in their work to improve mold and tooling standards through testing and development work
- Supporting ongoing operations by providing drawings and assisting in the sourcing of replacement parts
- Up to 20% travel
Qualifications
Core Proficiencies and Skills
The following skills and proficiencies are essential requirements of the position:
- Working knowledge in sizing application of various production lines that include:
- Blow mold equipment platen sizes
- Injection equipment cavity, size and pitch
- Tooling for various bottle layer configurations
- Secondary operation tooling
- Personal Parts
- Labeling (In Mold Labeling, Post Mold Labeling)
- Working knowledge in tooling design
- Custom bottle mold layouts, wedges, parison cutting
- Product drawings
- Mold hardware
- Metal cut detail
- IML layout and positioning hardware
- Tooling fitment knowledge on any of the following manufacturing equipment:
- Poly Wheel configurations (BC3, CE, GMG, HR, VR)
- Poly Shuttle configurations (Bekum, Disc, Techne, Other)
- Knowledgeable at 2D and 3D Computer Aided Design programs
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Project, Word)
- Motivated and organized individual with team skills
- Good communication and writing skills
- Understanding of purchasing procurement process
- Applies knowledge of a single discipline related to molds & tooling requirements on GPC manufacturing processes or has knowledge of mold & tooling requirements on multiple manufacturing disciplines
- Extrusion product design or processing exposure
- Working knowledge of problem solving techniques of straight forward problems
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience including:
- BS in Engineering or other technical discipline
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D design software
Compensation Statement
The expected salary range for the position described in this posting is made in accordance with the legal mandates of certain jurisdictions within the United States. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual qualifications and experience.
