Service Manager – Heavy Construction Equipment

Location: Virginia Reports To: Branch Manager Position Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead shop and field service operations supporting heavy construction and specialty equipment. This role is responsible for day-to-day service execution, customer satisfaction, team leadership, and operational performance. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with a solid background in heavy equipment service, scheduling, and cost control, and a customer-first mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of shop and road service teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality service delivery
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, serving as a key point of contact for service-related needs
  • Oversee scheduling, workflow planning, and work order management to meet customer and business deadlines
  • Monitor service performance, labor utilization, and cost control to support profitability and efficiency
  • Partner with local unions to maintain a positive, productive, and compliant work environment
  • Coach, train, and develop technicians and service staff, driving performance and professional growth
  • Support service standards, safety initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts

Qualifications & Preferred Experience

• Proven leadership and people management experience in a heavy equipment service environment

• Strong customer service and relationship-building skills

• Experience managing shop and field service scheduling, work orders, and service costs

• Ability to lead, motivate, and develop technical teams

• Background supporting construction, foundation, utility, crane, or specialty equipment is preferred

• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

• A desire to learn and grow within a service leadership role
