Craven County is seeking a dedicated professional for a full-time position in the Water Department. The annual salary is $93,205. The job is based in New Bern, NC.
The primary purpose of this position is to perform complex professional and difficult administrative work planning, organizing, and directing the county’s public water treatment and distribution system. This includes billing and customer service, technical advice and assistance to the County Manager and the Board of Commissioners, and ensuring capacity management and environmental compliance.
Essential functions include operating and maintaining the water treatment and distribution system, providing reports and advice to the County Manager and Board of Commissioners, researching and recommending plans and strategies, preparing and managing budgets, contracts, and expenditures, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Minimum education and experience requirements include a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, five years of experience in water treatment and distribution systems, and five years of direct supervisory experience. Certifications such as "A Well" and "A Distribution" water treatment are required or must be obtained within 12 months of employment. A valid North Carolina Driver’s License is also required.
Special requirements include residence in Craven County within 12 months of hire, willingness to serve during emergencies, and ability to operate small watercraft. The position involves sedentary work with physical requirements such as reaching, grasping, and visual acuity.
