Support Service Assistant

Join our team as a Support Service Assistant and make a difference in the lives of our residents. In this flexible, on-call role, you'll help residents get to and from their medical and personal appointments.

Shifts are 3–5 hours, scheduled between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

This is a back-up position with no regular schedule; you'll fill in as needed.

You'll work with residents who have dementia and mental health diagnoses.

Candidates must be comfortable supporting individuals who may display challenging behaviors.

This is a non-certified position, requiring no personal cares for residents.

Pay depends on experience!

  • Up to $14.31/hour and $16.31/hour on weekends with differential

Essential Job Functions

  • Makes unoccupied beds, strips bed linens not obviously soiled.
  • Straightens closets, drawers and night stands.
  • Cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming of floors, dusting and cleaning of fixtures and furniture and emptying of garbage cans.
  • Assures that resident's room are kept in a neat and organized manner.
  • Passes clean towels and wash cloths, picks up used linen/clothing, stocks linen shelves, carts, closets, etc.
  • Cleans equipment, and personal care items, as directed.
  • Puts resident clothing away in closets and drawers.
  • Pick up spa rooms after use.
  • Monitors areas or activities and location of residents as assigned.
  • Engages residents in diversional activities (i.e., games, reading, walks).
  • Answer telephone and directs calls.
  • Directs visitors to appropriate areas.
  • Assists in transporting wheelchair residents.
  • Accompanies residents to appointments outside the facility.
  • Assists in the dining room, as directed, with the exception to assisting residents with meals and snacks.
  • Provides observation of residents as directed by the supervisor.
  • Works safely and follows safety practices and standards of the facility; responsible for reporting or correcting any existing or potential safety or accident hazard.
  • Maintains residents' rights and confidentiality of resident information; reports all suspected cases of resident abuse to supervisor or Administrator.
  • Employee is expected to report to work on time and when scheduled.
  • In this public service position, employee is required to be courteous, cooperative and respectful at all times, with the public and clients. Also establishes and maintains a courteous, cooperative and respectful working relationship with other employees, supervisors and public officials.
  • Supports all aspects of person centered care. Respects and acknowledges individuality and uniqueness of residents.
  • Attends in-service education as provided or mandated.
  • Tasks assigned to this position involve potential and/or direct exposure to blood or body fluids. Risk Exposure Categories: 1=Tasks may involve exposure to blood/body fluids. 2=Tasks do not involve contact with blood/body fluids but could result in performing Category 1 task. 3=Tasks do not involve any risk of exposure to blood/body fluid.
  • Physical demands: Majority of time is spent standing and walking throughout the facility and interacting with residents. Frequently pushes (wheel chairs, linen carts), stoops, bends, reaches. Intermittently throughout the days lifts various items such as food trays, dirty linen, trash bags, etc., not to exceed 20 lbs. Frequently uses oral communication and hearing. Reads and writes English. When working in resident care areas there may be physical discomfort due to temperature, noise, etc. When transporting residents, uses near/far vision, hearing and hands and feet for driving a vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read, follow written and oral directions
  • Ability to learn job responsibilities through training provided during facility orientation and on the job.

Training, Experience and Other Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age.
  • Successful completion of background check as required by Wisconsin Caregiver Law.

Benefits for this position depend on the number of hours worked.

  • If the position is full-time, then benefits would be available.
  • If the position is part-time, then limited benefits would be available (this would not include insurances unless 30 hours per week or more).
  • If the hours are less-than-half-time, then there are no benefits available.
