Vallecitos Water District is hiring for a full-time salaried position with a salary range of $133,778.00 to $179,275.00 annually. The job is located in San Marcos, CA, and is part of the Engineering Department under the Development Services Division. The opening date is June 26, 2025.

Description

This position involves planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and overseeing development projects, planning studies, and environmental compliance. It reports directly to the Director of Engineering and supervises staff in the Development Services department.

Essential Functions

Essential functions include planning, assigning, supervising, reviewing, and evaluating the work of assigned staff; providing staff training and development; assisting in the selection of staff; reviewing work for accuracy and compliance with department standards; studying and standardizing procedures to improve department efficiency; participating in necessary disciplinary actions; writing performance appraisals; ensuring high-level customer service; providing assistance to staff in resolving problems; ensuring safe work methods are followed and appropriate safety precautions and equipment are utilized; and conducting safety meetings.

Typical Qualifications

Ideal candidate traits include strong leadership skills, prior experience in mentoring and training staff of different levels, and hydraulic modeling experience. Knowledge of civil engineering principles, contract administration, and business data processing applications is required. The position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil, environmental, or another related engineering field, and four years of professional-level engineering experience in the planning, design, construction, or maintenance of water distribution facilities and/or wastewater collection, treatment, and reclamation facilities, with at least one year in a lead role preferred. A current and valid California Professional Engineer's license is required.

Requires vision abilities sufficient to operate a District vehicle and work on a computer. The environment is an office environment with less than 20% of time spent outdoors, possibly driving to other sites in District vehicle. May visit construction sites involving exposure to loud noises and uneven terrain. Frequently works in or around areas with minor amounts of dust. Some work done on ladders up to 4 feet above ground. Noise level is usually quiet.
