The City of Grover Beach is seeking a Senior Engineer and Associate Engineer to perform field and office work related to engineering functions in support of the City's land development, traffic, or capital improvement programs. The Senior Engineer will coordinate and plan projects including the preparation of proposals, reviewing plans, preparing reports, and coordinating construction activities. The Associate Engineer will serve as a plan check engineer or project manager on projects, including defining project scope and selecting consultants, negotiating contracts, and preparing and monitoring project schedules.

The Senior Engineer performs field and office work related to engineering functions in support of City land development, traffic, or capital improvement programs; to coordinate and plan projects including preparation of proposals, reviewing plans, preparing reports and coordinating construction activities; to ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; and to perform the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
The Associate Engineer is the journey-level in the professional engineering classification and incumbents may perform the full range of the engineering functions, but with primary emphasis on street rehabilitation, infrastructure development and traffic issues in a developing City. This class is distinguished from the higher level of Public Works Director/City Engineer in that the Public Works Director/City Engineer handles complex projects and has full supervisory authority over lower-level Engineers. It is distinguished from the lower-level of Engineering Technician in that the Associate Engineer has project management responsibilities in addition to performing the full range of professional engineering duties on routine projects and performs more complex plan checks.
Receives general direction from the Public Works Director/City Engineer. Exercises direct and indirect supervision over Engineering Technician.

Minimum Qualifications (The following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification.)
Education and Experience
Senior Engineer - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in Civil, Traffic or Transportation Engineering or a related field, and a minimum of four years related experience in civil, traffic, land development, construction or water resource planning.
Associate Engineer - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in an engineering curriculum or a field related to the area of assignment and minimum of three years of professional engineering experience.
