Supplier Quality Engineer

Gordon Murray Automotive is a UK-based global luxury brand dedicated to creating and manufacturing the world's greatest driving cars. The SQE is responsible for working closely with their nominated suppliers and internal interfacing functions to ensure the necessary quality assurance activities required to guarantee good quality parts to GMA vehicles are fully realised within the supply base, and that all the supplied parts they are responsible for are fully matured and validated from design concept stage through to production readiness and final parts sign off.

Key Responsibilities

The SQE is responsible for:

  • Conducting supplier audits as defined in the Supplier Audit Plan.
  • Acting as the main quality signatory for the sign-off of newly nominated suppliers.
  • Supporting new projects (NPI) Process and managing the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities.
  • Participating and engaging in DFMEA & PFMEA activities.
  • Agreeing PPAP requirements with suppliers.
  • Ensuring supplier measurement and inspection strategy is aligned.
  • Confirming initial sample inspection reports (ISIR's) are completed.
  • Engaging with and managing nominated suppliers.
  • Managing supplier non-conformance.
  • Facilitating containment activities at suppliers.
  • Escalating unresolved Supplier quality issues.
  • Conducting lessons learned sessions.
  • Promoting techniques for continuous improvement.
  • Collecting and reporting on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Assisting in resolving supplier quality issues.
  • Acting as point of contact for lineside supplier quality queries.
  • Working in close collaboration with internal Quality and Goods Inwards Inspectors.
  • Acting as Lead on nominated SQE projects.
  • Standing in for line manager in their absence.
  • Travelling to UK and overseas as required.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

The SQE should have:

  • Experience of working within Powertrain, Chassis, Vehicle Structure, Electrical/Electronics, and Interior commodity groups.
  • Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Tools.
  • Working knowledge of ISO9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of ISO14001:2015 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001:2015 (Health & Safety Management).
  • Knowledge and/or experience in Metrology, Inspection Methods and Measuring Equipment.
  • Understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Knowledge and experience of a variety of manufacturing processes used within the Automotive Industry.
  • Capable of working in a diverse and dynamic environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good negotiation skills.
  • Ability to compile and present data effectively.
  • Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directing, passion for delivering objectives, comfortable challenging existing processes.
  • Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients.
