Mechanical Engineer

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer. Mechanical Engineer will assist the MEP Lead, Project Manager and/or Resident Engineer in administering the operational functions of the day-to-day activities on the project. He/She will participate in review and approval of all submittals by the contractors and involves in the quality control and quality assurance. Under the supervision of the Resident Engineer or MEP Lead, performs routine inspection monitoring tasks to confirm if proper construction supervision is being performed by others. Inspects various facets of work on the construction site and performs continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Document non-conformance and may participate in determining appropriate resolution.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the RE and/or MEP Lead in performing the contractual duties on site.
  • Advising the project manager of any technical aspects of the mechanical services that may affect construction progress, quality and the like.
  • Interfacing with the public, especially residents and business owners adjacent to the work to mitigate the construction impacts.
  • Overseeing and inspecting all mechanical work and ensuring that installation activities comply with contractual obligations and quality control standards.
  • Following up with the contractor and supporting in coordinating with the utility authority regarding connections whenever required.
  • Monitoring and coordinating all contractors' activities for this discipline.
  • Performing works inspection requests and material inspection requests on a daily basis.
  • Undertaking general project site observation/inspection of the mechanical services works for Contractor's adherence to the approved shop drawings and Consultant's specification, good working practices, the construction schedule and health & safety.
  • Providing support in reviewing construction submittals from project inception to close-out.
  • Reviewing Contractor's installation method statements.
  • Reviewing Contractor's shop drawings against the design [tender] drawings for compliance with the design intent and returning to the project manager with appropriate comments/approval.
  • Reviewing Contractor's shop drawing in conjunction with the structural and mechanical engineers to ensure engineering coordination and advising the project manager accordingly.
  • Reviewing Contractor's mechanical services material proposals against specified technical performance requirements and advising the Project Manager on the appropriateness of the proposals.
  • Reviewing Contractor's proposed sub-contractor(s) associated with the mechanical engineering works from a technical standpoint.
  • Undertaking prior review of Contractor's proposed mechanical system testing & commissioning methods and schedule.
  • Reviewing and commenting on Contractor's testing and commissioning results and advising the Project Manager accordingly.
  • Collaborating with construction management to eliminate any hazards associated with the work that may adversely affect the environment or the safety or health of employees.
  • Reviewing and interpreting discipline design drawings and specifications to ensure current revision level and correct technical execution of the work.
  • Providing resolution for technical engineering problems within the assigned discipline(s); coordinating application of solutions to ensure progress on site.
  • Undertaking final project snagging and preparing a list of defects for Contractor's action.
  • Attending project, site progress and any mechanical services related technical meetings as directed by the project manager.
  • Preparing draft site/engineer's instructions, relating to the building mechanical services, as required and issuing to the Project Manager.
  • Providing advice to the Project Manager in regard to any mechanical services related variation costs that may be claimed by the Contractor during the course of the works.
  • Reviewing and commenting upon Contractors Operation and Maintenance manuals.
  • Monitoring material procurement and deliveries to ensure timeliness in support of construction activities and schedule within the assigned discipline.
  • Ensuring that materials received meet specifications and established standards of quality.
  • Organizing the accumulation of assigned discipline data for the final project turnover and report.
  • Being available to undertake off-site inspections of proposed equipment and materials as may be deemed necessary by the Project Manager.
  • Overseeing junior engineers and inspectors for all mechanical work and ensuring that installation activities comply with contractual obligations and quality control standards.
  • Following up with the contractor and supporting in coordinating with the utility authority regarding connections whenever required.
  • Ensuring that the project quality control procedures are used for the construction supervision works and monitoring it for improvement.
  • Initiating and maintaining records, back charge procedures, progress reports, etc., as required.
  • Performing other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
