Graduate Hydraulics Designer – Building Engineering and Maritime (Brisbane)

We're GHD. We don't do hair. But we straighten out some of the world's biggest challenges.

We're engineers, scientists, designers, architects, planners, advisors, innovators and change makers, committed to making energy, water and communities sustainable for generations to come.

Since 1928, we've been wholly owned by our employees. Today, we are 11,000 diverse and skilled individuals working in over 160 offices across five continents — Asia, Australia, Europe, North and South America, and the Pacific region.

Who could you be at GHD?

Our two-year Graduate Development Program is designed to give you a smooth start to your consulting career. Alongside your peers, managers and mentors, we'll help you detangle any challenges along the way.

Whether your passion is in Engineering, Science, Project Management, Architecture or another consulting speciality, we'll work with you to find your ideal first role.

Along the way, you'll get a broad look at the many career pathways available at GHD — because no future should come with split ends! You'll have the chance to work in design teams to help deliver exciting projects, contribute to bids and tenders, and even get hands-on with occasional site work.

In your first year, we'll focus on the fundamentals of consulting to help you find your rhythm in the industry. By year two, you'll have the flexibility to style your development, whether that's diving deeper into technical capability or soaking up wisdom from your mentors.

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for a Graduate Hydraulics Designer/Engineer to join our Building Engineering and Maritime team in Brisbane!

You'll be part of a close-knit, practical and supportive group delivering hydraulic and building services solutions across a wide range of commercial and infrastructure projects.

Given the nature of some of our project work, the ability to obtain the appropriate government security clearance for project work is beneficial.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Diploma of Hydraulic Services Design, Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services, Civil or Mechanical Engineering degree with an interest in hydraulics, or experience as a qualified plumber looking to move off the tools into design/consulting
  • 0–3 years of experience
  • Experience with Revit (desirable)
  • Sound knowledge of basic computer software (MS Office, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Ability to interpret plans, drawings and technical documentation
  • Understanding of relevant Australian Standards, local authority requirements and QLD legislation (beneficial)
  • Good communication and teamwork skills – and not afraid to ask questions

What will you get to do?

As a Graduate Hydraulics Designer, you'll help support the design and delivery of hydraulic services across a diverse range of building and infrastructure projects.

Working with senior designers and engineers, you'll:

  • Assist with hydraulic system design and documentation for commercial, health, transport and infrastructure projects
  • Support Revit modelling and drafting tasks
  • Learn to interpret plans, specifications and codes
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated designs
  • Contribute to project delivery activities
  • Develop strong foundations in design, modelling, drafting and compliance
  • Gain exposure to projects ranging from small refurbishments to major infrastructure developments
