Civil Engineers For Dams Team In Tasmania

The importance of water to the health of our world can't be overstated. As the frequency and intensity of floods, droughts and storms increases, the water industry must continue to build resiliency and lead from the front. Together with our clients, we are thinking and doing things differently to help pre-empt and prepare for what's next. Be a part of this dynamic and committed team of diverse water specialists and drive change for your community.

Who are we looking for? Due to a significant state-wide project win, we're seeking Civil Engineers at various levels of experience to join our growing Dams team based in Tasmania. Whether you're a young professional or a seasoned expert, this is your opportunity to contribute to this renowned project and client, in a region known for its natural beauty and engineering challenges.

What sets this opportunity apart is the long pipeline of work—often considered a luxury in the consulting world. This sustained workload offers stability, career growth, and the chance to be part of a team delivering meaningful infrastructure outcomes over the long term.

As part of GHD's dynamic, multidisciplinary team of over 150 dams engineers in Australia alone, you will focus on new dam designs, dam upgrade projects, dam safety, risk assessment, and play a key role in supporting our clients to manage their dam portfolios throughout Tasmania, Australia and beyond.

Working with a passionate and high performing team, these positions offer the chance to work on complex, high-impact projects that support sustainable water management and community safety and will see you involved in:

  • Providing specialised technical services to clients on a diverse range of dam-related projects including feasibility studies, new design, and dam upgrade projects.
  • Leading the safety evaluation of existing dams, spillways, embankments, and related structures; as well as performing dam safety risk assessments and identifying risk mitigation strategies.
  • Leading dam safety surveillance activities for a range of Australia's major dam owners.
  • Actively participate in client relationship management, business development, development of proposals, reports and technical analysis.
  • Providing support for a range of other supporting disciplines including geotechnical investigations and construction support.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Civil) or higher qualifications with relevant experience in dam design, construction, or safety assessment and management.
  • Eligibility for Engineers Australia membership (or already Chartered for senior roles).
  • Knowledge of design of a broad range of dam types, including embankment and concrete dams.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of elements which may include spillway design, dam design, design of outlets and intake towers, hydropower facilities, dam safety and risk assessments and construction phase experience.
  • Experience with investigation and construction phase services, as well as an understanding of dam safety management practices and guidelines.
  • For the right candidate, we will consider a part-time appointment (minimum of 0.8 FTE).

Enjoy a lifestyle that balances professional growth with access to nature, community and culture. If you're not already residing in Tasmania, relocation assistance can be discussed. Lower cost of living than mainland cities will give you more financial freedom to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle without making sacrifices on advancing your career.
