Job Overview
The R&D Engineering and Facilities Technician supports the engineers, performs prototype assembly and testing to support R&D new product development and other laboratory activities under the direction of R&D Engineers. In addition, the R&D Engineering Technician supports the department with maintenance and management of equipment and building facilities. Ensures environmental and safety management program implementation and compliance.
Job Responsibilities and Essential Duties
- Provide technical support to R&D staff performing product and component testing and documenting data results with supervision, training, and direction as required.
- Perform PCB soldering, PCBA rework for prototype development.
- Fabricate components as required for prototyping.
- Perform mechanical assembly of prototypes as directed by R&D staff.
- Ensures that all preventative maintenance functions are addressed and that the logbooks are properly documented. Updates maintenance procedures as necessary.
- Develops cost estimates for repairs or installation of new machinery.
- Performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on electrical systems, heating and cooling systems, process cooling systems, building structure and related systems, plumbing, vacuum, compressed air systems, furniture systems, lightning and ballast replacement.
- Performs basic maintenance functions, using any of the following skills as necessary: Electrical, Painting, Plumbing, Masonry, Carpentry, and other basic mechanical skills, while maintaining an organized and safe work area.
- Develops and implements systems and plans to manage current and future facility space requirements and capital equipment infrastructure requirements.
- Responds to emergency repair requests.
- Locates and contacts vendors to get quotes on major facility repair jobs and/or special equipment requirements. Schedules outside contractors and coordinates their activities.
- Orders parts, equipment, chemicals and other R&D materials as needed to perform job functions.
- Coordinates and documents all hazardous waste transfers from the facility.
- Maintains MSDS logs and updates as needed.
- Maintains all required logbooks and documentation associated with waste management.
- Serves as Site Emergency Coordinator.
- Works with a security company to ensure that all aspects of facility security system are operational and that warning systems are working properly and procedures are in place.
- Responds to all call-ins when system alarms. Maintains records on all alarm responses. May wear a paging unit as part of alarm response system notification.
- Performs special projects as assigned by Director, R&D.
Minimum Requirements
- Technical degree or previous experience in operations labs or engineering/production environment a plus.
- Familiarity with air/vacuum systems and production equipment is essential.
- Experience with electrical and plumbing operation.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Prior experience in medical product development and/or manufacturing or related areas is a plus.
- Ability to work a hybrid schedule, 3-4 days a week in-office
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must have strong mechanical and electrical skills to perform preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment.
- Be able to follow technical instructions, written and oral.
- Must have good, methodical work process and attention to details.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to collaborate and work in a team environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and protocols.
- Strong time management skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Pay Rate: $36 - $45 / hour
