Controls Engineer

Provides PLC support to plant maintenance, operations, and acts as a technical leader among the maintenance group in a highly automated automotive manufacturing environment. This is a night shift position working 6pm-6:30a on a 2/3/2 schedule.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Follow and develop standardized work instructions.
  • Electrical maintenance and programming of robotics and welding equipment (Fanuc & Lincoln).
  • Provide controls support to the plant floor including troubleshooting, programming and integration work.
  • Conveyor systems – Programming and troubleshooting.
  • Install or replace motors and drives as required.
  • Develop / modify HMI screens and layouts as required.
  • Must follow all OSHA and plant safety rules including, lock-out tag-out, etc…
  • Performs electrical duties such as wiring equipment and troubleshooting electrical issues.
  • Reads, interprets, and creates equipment manuals and work orders to perform required duties.
  • Support Operational Performance Metrics and meet targets for improvement.
  • Project management and lead of plant floor improvement controls projects as assigned by management.
  • Assist in continued development of the training program for maintenance employees.
  • Monitor the line and robot operations to identify opportunities to reduce line cycle time.
  • Extensive knowledge of AB RS Logix 5000, safety PLCs and/or Siemens TIA Portal preferred.
  • Attend all company-provided training for personal development as required.
  • Any other duties deemed necessary or appropriate by management.

Education and experience:

  • HS diploma/GED + advanced technical training in electrical, robotics, and PLC's.
  • BS in mechanical engineering and 5+ years of experience preferred, or at least 10 years of job-related experience/proven expertise.
  • Previous experience with project management or integration.
  • Required - AB RS Logix 5000 – Control logix, compact logix, etc…
  • Required - Siemens TIA Portal.
  • Required - Ethernet IP / ProfiNet communication protocols.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • AB RS Logix 5000 – Control logix, compact logix, etc…
  • Siemens TIA Portal.
  • AB PowerFlex or Siemens G120 Drives.
  • Fanuc robotics programming and electrical maintenance.
  • HAAS CNC's.
  • Ethernet IP / ProfiNet communication protocols.
  • HMI development and programming.
  • Draw and interpret electrical diagrams.
  • Panel wiring, high voltage and low voltage circuits.
  • Machine vision – Keyence, Cognex, Banner, etc… - integration and troubleshooting.
  • Bosch weld timers.
  • Lincoln PowerWave or Fronious weld power supplies.
  • Desire for continued growth and development.
