Field Service And Commissioning Engineer – Industrial Machinery

Greater Chicago Area Travel: ~40–50% (project-based across North America)

The company is the U.S. subsidiary of a globally established industrial technology group specializing in highly engineered industrial machinery and capital equipment used in demanding production environments.

Customers operate in industries where precision, reliability, and process stability are critical, including aerospace, defense, automotive, and energy.

The U.S. team supports machine commissioning, field service, training, and customer-facing technical activities across North America and works closely with international engineering teams.

About The Role

As the installed base in North America continues to grow, the U.S. organization is strengthening its hands-on commissioning and troubleshooting capabilities.

This is a field-focused engineering role supporting complex industrial machinery in real production environments.

Travel: Project-based travel across North America approximately 40–50%. Travel is primarily related to planned machine installations, commissioning projects, and customer training.

Important: This is not a PLC programming-from-scratch or controls design position.

Core automation architecture and programming are developed by centralized engineering teams. This role focuses on:

  • machine commissioning
  • equipment installation and startup
  • system diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • parameter optimization
  • system stabilization in production environments

This is also not a reactive 24/7 emergency service role. Commissioning projects are structured and planned.

New hires are supported through structured onboarding, mentoring, and joint field deployments during the initial training phase.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support installation, commissioning, and startup of industrial machinery
  • Perform IO checkout and functional validation
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and automation systems
  • Support targeted PLC parameter adjustments (Siemens TIA Portal preferred)
  • Support HMI validation and minor adjustments
  • Verify machine performance and stabilize systems in production environments
  • Provide structured customer training during system handover
  • Act as technical interface between customers and engineering teams
  • Contribute to technical documentation and feedback loops

Qualifications

  • 2–6 years of experience in commissioning, field service, or industrial automation
  • Hands-on PLC troubleshooting exposure required (Siemens preferred)
  • Experience working with industrial machinery or production equipment
  • Strong technical troubleshooting mindset
  • Comfortable working with electrical, mechanical, and automation systems
  • Willingness to travel 40–50% for commissioning and installation projects
  • Comfortable working in structured engineering environments
  • Candidates with experience commissioning industrial machinery at customer sites are strongly preferred.

Why Join

  • Long-term technical development opportunity
  • Structured onboarding and mentoring
  • Exposure to precision-driven industrial machinery
  • Growing installed base across North America
  • International collaboration with engineering teams

Compensation & Benefits

  • $35 – $40/hour
  • Overtime paid 1.5x after 40 hours
  • Uncapped performance-based bonus potential
  • 20 days PTO
  • 401(k) with 4% company match
  • Medical & dental insurance
  • Car allowance
