Flight Test Discipline Engineer

Flight Test Discipline Engineer (FTDE) for the Test & Evaluation organization in Marietta, GA. Primary duties will be for the AMMM program which consists of the C-130, C-5 and P-3 aircraft. Tasks will include the test planning, test execution, data analysis, and test reporting of lab, aircraft ground and aircraft flight tests. Test responsibilities will include a variety of aircraft and aircraft systems testing but will focus mainly on avionic and mechanical subsystems. Must be able to effectively interact and communicate with other internal organizations, USG customers and International customers in order to develop comprehensive and executable test requirements. The FTDE must be able to transform contractual test requirements, Military standards, FAA regulations and airworthiness criteria into detailed test procedures to ensure that LM is providing a quality and safe product. In collaboration with the Instrumentation Engineer, the FTDE will be required to define the data and instrumentation requirements for testing. Real-time monitoring of data and test execution will be required. This will require flying on test aircraft. The FTDE must have effective verbal and written communication skills in order to prepare comprehensive test reports and to adequately communicate test results to the customer and other organizations. Must be able to obtain a secret security clearance. Overtime, odd shifts, and weekend work will occasionally be required. Travel will be required for many test programs. Travel will be both domestic and international. Travel dates and spans are highly volatile in the flight test environment.

A level 2 employee typically has 2-5 years of professional experience. Must be a US Citizen. This position is located at a facility that requires special access.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors' degree from an accredited college.
  • Experience with planning, execution, data analysis and reporting of testing on an aircraft and in Avionics Labs.
  • Experience with aircraft avionic systems and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with a team.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience/familiarization with C-130J aircraft.
  • FAA certification testing.
  • Experience with Mil-Std-1553 data bus formats.
  • MATLAB.
  • Microsoft Office/Teams.
  • Project leadership / Control Account Management.
  • Earned Value Management.
  • Must have a personality and demeanor to handle the highly dynamic environment of flight test, including the always-changing dates and priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability for frequent travel.
  • Ability to acquire and retain Secret Clearance.
  • Willingness and capability to fly onboard aircraft and pass an equivalent FAA class 3 medical exam is MANDATORY.
