Assistant Maintenance Manager

The Assistant Maintenance Manager is responsible for the maintenance and proper operation of all plant-associated equipment in a secondary role to the Maintenance Manager and as a primary role in the absence of the Maintenance Manager. This will include manufacturing machinery, support equipment, company vehicle(s), building and grounds, etc. He will seek to optimize the operation by supporting the Maintenance Manager and Operations Manager as well leading Maintenance Department initiatives. The responsibilities of this position involve important and sensitive information of the company; therefore, this position must maintain, at all times, extreme professionalism and confidentiality.

The following is a general list of duties that will be performed by the Assistant Maintenance Manager as required. Each duty may be not be required daily, but may be required as deemed necessary by the Maintenance Manager or Operations Manager. This list is not all-inclusive; therefore, various duties or changes may occur as required.

Maintenance Activities:

  • Supervise and organize the work schedules of the assigned personnel to maximize performance.
  • Assist in the management of the completion of all repairs on plant equipment, building, and grounds in a timely and cost-effective manner in support of the Maintenance Manager.
  • Support establishment, coordination, and facilitation of an effective Preventive Maintenance program by the Maintenance Manager. Maintain records of PM schedules, task completion. Review performance of PM program and adjust maintenance intervals to minimize the downtime and financial impact to the company.
  • Work with the Maintenance Manager to develop and maintain an adequate spare parts inventory system to meet plant performance and cost initiatives. Source and procure required parts and/or materials both domestically and internationally for timely completion of repair tasks or improvement projects in support of the Maintenance Manager.
  • Direct capital improvement or other projects from job bid to commissioning as directed by the Maintenance Manager, Operations Manager or other Management.
  • Prepare and maintain the required documentation to support maintenance tasks and machine performance history.
  • Monitor downtime performance for manufacturing lines and implement actions to eliminate equipment failure/repair downtime events using root cause analysis.
  • Assist with coordination and assistance of outside contractors within the company issued guidelines in support of the Maintenance Manager.
  • Assist with the coordination and assistance of building maintenance (landscaping, sprinkler system, HVAC, etc.) in support of the Maintenance Manager.
  • Work with the Maintenance Manager to develop standards and instruct proper maintenance in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Lead annual review of LOTO procedures and update as needed.
  • Actively participate in company meetings seeking to contribute within the available resources.
  • Direct the continuous development of the Maintenance crew to support the needs of the process.
  • Support after-hours/weekend/Holiday maintenance issues inclusive of on-site support as dictated by the situation to minimize the downtime or waste impact to the facility.
  • Actively learn and be able to execute the daily requirements of the Maintenance Manager position in their absence.

Miscellaneous:

  • Participate in creating and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Participate in the reduction of waste.
  • Participate in developing and maintaining a quality process.
  • Participate in product improvement and cost reduction.
  • Maintain communication with the various departments seeking to support as needed.

Qualifications:

Must have a high school education or GED plus credited degreed/certified educational training and/or a minimum of ten (10) years direct hands-on experience in industrial/manufacturing maintenance; along with supervisory/management experience. Must possess very sound troubleshooting skills and direct knowledge of: Electrical controls and PLCs, drives, mechanical power transmission components and assemblies, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components, reading electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical power distribution schematics. Must be capable of basic math, read and use a tape measure/caliper/micrometer, operation of common hand and power tools in a maintenance shop environment.
