Mediator For Special Education Disputes

The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) is seeking applications from qualified Mediators who have knowledge of special education regulations and dispute resolution skills to assist parents and school districts in resolving special education disputes experience with government and/or education disputes.

Essential Functions:

• Drive throughout the State of Georgia for in-person mediation sessions;
• Conduct virtual mediations through approved online platforms;
• Communicate verbally and in writing with GaDOE staff, school district personnel, and parents;

Selection Process:

A limited number of candidates from across the state of Georgia will be selected based on material submitted, input of a Review Committee and an interview process. Selected candidates will be provided additional details on the scope of the work, training requirements, and reimbursement.

• Any potential conflicts of interest in serving as a Mediator

• Professional, and/or volunteer experience that might benefit serving as a Mediator for special education disputes

• Any diverse cultural background or experience you possess

• Language(s) spoken, other than English

Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum of two years of mediation experience

• Minimum of one-year special education experience OR at least forty (40) hours of experience or training in special education

• Georgia professional educator certification in special education

• Professional degree in education or law

• Experience working with diverse cultures and backgrounds

Compensation: $650 per mediation plus state-approved travel expenses (not to exceed $24,500)

**Applications will not be accepted from individuals who are employees of GaDOE or local education agencies

High school diploma/GED and seven (7) years of program management experience; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Education Prgm Spec 3 (EDP032) or position equivalent. Additional Information
