The Conversational AI group is seeking a Staff Engineer AI/ML to join the team and drive the evolution of our Conversational AI solutions with a focus on Generative AI systems at global scale. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of our AI capabilities while leading complex technical initiatives that will define our journey towards Agentic AI. You'll work at the intersection of cutting-edge AI research and practical implementation, delivering solutions that have a significant organizational impact. You will collaborate closely with UX designers, and product teams supporting each other to bring state-of-the-art AI technologies to production.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead technical architecture and development of our Virtual Agents engine, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Design and implement innovative AI solutions that advance our conversational AI capabilities and support our Agentic AI vision.
  • Manage complex technical projects from conception to delivery, including work delegation and technical review processes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product teams, researchers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical coaching and knowledge transfer.
  • Drive technical standards and best practices across AI development workflows (e.g., security, testing).
  • Research and evaluate emerging AI technologies and methodologies to maintain our competitive edge.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Stay current with industry trends in conversational AI, LLMs, and agentic systems.

What We're Looking For:

  • Ideally, a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or related disciplines. However, this is not a hard requirement as we recognize there are many diverse paths into software careers.
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in AI/ML systems
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals including system design, data structures, algorithms, and software architecture.
  • Experience leading complex technical projects and managing technical deliverables.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and explain complex concepts across organizational levels.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, with experience in building microservice applications.
  • Experience with AWS, microservices architecture, and scalable system design.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Desirable Experience or an Interest in Learning:

  • Experience in developing REST API's using frameworks such as FastAPI, Spring Boot, or Flask-RESTX.
  • Experience with real-time AI-driven applications (e.g., chatbots, voice assistants, AI copilots).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (particularly AWS) and AI/ML services.
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs (e.g., GPT, Claude, Mistral), fine-tuning, and prompt engineering.
  • Experience with AI agent frameworks (e.g., Bedrock, LangChain, AutoGPT, OpenAI Function Calling).
  • Experience with multi-agent systems and autonomous agent architectures.
  • Experience with vector databases and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
  • Contributions to open-source AI projects, research publications, or patents in AI/ML.
