At General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada, we develop innovative products and solutions that make platforms smarter — enhancing security, safety, and operational advantage while protecting nations and strengthening communities. Here, your work matters. Every day, you'll contribute to projects that strengthen national security and advance technological capabilities.

Job Description

In this role, you will support the Test Engineering Department, assisting with the operation, testing, and maintenance of equipment used to verify mission-critical systems. This role is focused on hands-on, equipment-based work rather than design engineering. You will work under the guidance of experienced technologists and engineers, gaining applied experience with test equipment, technical documentation, and standardized test processes in a controlled lab environment.

This position provides practical exposure to system- and component-level testing, fault investigation, and technical documentation, helping you build foundational technologist skills in electronics, testing, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the operation and testing of equipment using established procedures, work instructions, and standard test approaches.
  • Assist with troubleshooting activities at the system and component level under guidance, including investigating hardware, firmware, or software-related issues.
  • Perform basic rework and assembly tasks, such as mechanical assembly or introductory soldering, as appropriate.
  • Review and interpret technical documentation, including schematics, drawings, parts lists, bills of materials, and acceptance test procedures.
  • Record test results, observations, and failure information in quality or tracking systems.
  • Assist with preventative or corrective maintenance activities on test equipment and lab tools under supervision.
  • Collaborate with technologists, engineers, and production teams to support testing and issue-resolution activities.
  • Contribute ideas and observations to support continuous improvement of test processes, lab practices, and documentation.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be enrolled in a formalized co-operative education program.
  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program in Electronics Engineering Technology, or a related applied technical discipline.
  • Interest in hands-on testing, equipment operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong attention to detail and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow documented procedures and work in a structured lab environment.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Motivated, eager to learn, and receptive to guidance from experienced technologists.

Preferred

  • Exposure to electronics testing, debugging, or lab-based coursework.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic schematics and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with test equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, or environmental chambers.
  • Introductory experience with soldering, mechanical assembly, or rework activities.
  • Experience recording results in quality systems, logs, or technical documentation.
  • Exposure to firmware or software concepts related to diagnostics or testing.

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.

Additional Information

Compensation The expected hourly rate for this position is $20.66 – $23.42. Final compensation will be determined based on your relevant experience. As part of student placement, you will be eligible for quarterly pay increases.
