Principal Systems Engineer
GDIT is seeking an experienced Principal Systems Engineer to work in a dynamic Agile team environment. The Principal Systems Engineer Advisor will be part of a technically diverse team supporting Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) via the Integrated Data Repository (IDR) contract. The Integrated Data Repository (IDR) is a high-volume data warehouse integrating Parts A, B, C, D, and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) claims, beneficiary and provider data sources, along with ancillary data such as contract information, risk scores, and many others. Access to this robust integrated data supports a variety of strategic analytics across CMS.
In addition to data, the IDR encompasses an evolving cloud ecosystem of services, applications, and software that are used for internal purposes as well as for external user access/utilization. It is this collective team's vision/goal to support these analytics at CMS through:
- Continuous and improved information sharing with CMS Stakeholders and IDR users.
- Simplified User Onboarding and system access processes.
- Enhancing data quality and integration with other systems.
- Strengthening query and analytic capabilities through constant and iterative enhancements.
- Proactive evaluation and testing of tools/services to better support Analytical use cases.
- Prototyping and/or developing new features, applications, and/or software products
How you will make an impact:
As a member of the Support team the Principal Systems Engineer will be responsible for activities (including but not limited to):
- Supporting forward engineering development activities
- Contribute to proof of concepts (internal and external facing)
- Assist in software product evaluations to support our contract and CMS Stakeholder initiatives
- Supporting IDR Users to resolve issues, answer questions, and assist with their analytical use cases in our enterprise data warehouse/ecosystem
What you'll need to succeed:
- BA/BS or equivalent (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- 8+ years of Systems Engineering, Development, or Data Science experience
- Notebooks experience (such as Snowflake, Jupyter Hub/Labs, Databricks, Sagemaker), required
- Experience with developing applications/software utilizing AWS services
- Experience with Multiple programming languages (SQL/Python/R), required
- Proficiency using Atlassian tools like Confluence and Jira (or similar tools) for task tracking and project documentation.
It would be great if you also had:
- Experience with deploying AWS services using Cloud Formation or similar tools
- AWS SageMaker experience, preferred
- Snowflake experience, preferred
- CMS experience preferred
Location: Remote
Clearance: Ability to obtain a Public Trust: candidate must have lived in the United States at least three (3) out of the last five (5) years and pass a public trust background investigation.

The likely salary range for this position is $110,500 - $149,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
