Department 440 Payload Launch Control Special Projects is responsible for the design development, test, and lifecycle support of special project payload systems on SEAWOLF and VIRGINIA Class submarines. The department designs systems that control movement of payloads in and out of the submarine. The department also manages subcontractor development that supports these payload handling systems. We work with our internal partners developing electrical design products, software, and integrated logistic support products. The highest attention to detail is necessary since these systems support mission requirements and must be safe and reliable. This team follows Electric Boat's systems engineering processes.
This position is within the D440 SP Electronic Systems (components) group. The group is responsible for design and engineering of laboratory and production electronic hardware for the control of payload handling and launching systems. The group's work involves in-house development of rugged enclosures, embedded control systems, power distribution and power supply systems, cooling solutions, networking equipment, circuit design and analysis, prototyping and engineering development model fabrication and test. The group provides construction support as required. Some of the group's work involves subcontractor management, which consists of specification development, oversight of vendor efforts, and approving vendor drawings/deliverables. The group interfaces with NAVSEA, NUWC, shipyards, design, labs, trades, program office, other engineering disciplines, and multiple vendors.
