Talent Pool For Train Service Controllers

In preparation for future vacancies, GB Railfreight is building a Talent Pool of experience and motivated Train Service Controllers to join our Control Desk in Glasgow.

Our Controllers provide real time information for our GB Railfreight Caledonian Sleeper service and Rail Services Portfolio in order to exceed customer requirements for punctuality, reliability and service quality. You will be proactive in monitoring the train services, in liaison with Network Rail and customer representatives, including investigation into time losses and arranging corrective actions to be taken. The role holder will be in charge of the coordination of modified or emergency train plans in liaison with Network Rail and the Duty Control Manager.

The Control department is a 24/7, 365 days of the year operation. You can expect to be rostered for 12-hour shifts which include days, nights, weekend and bank holiday working. The salary on offer for this role including shift allowance is £55,211.

Responsibilities

  • Communication of plan revisions and other information throughout GB Railfreight, its customers and contractors.
  • Supporting the Duty Control Manager & TOPS/Fleet controller with attribution of Level One TRUST Delay Data detailing initial causes of the incident and further monitoring of TRUST delay incidents to ensure reactionary delays are dealt with correctly.
  • Liaise with the Duty Control Manager, Engineering Team or Contractor and Network Rail in the event of a train failure or defect to establish the most effective course of action to be taken to minimise disruption, in conjunction with GBRf OSM 120 "Defective On-Train Equipment".
  • Advise GB Railfreight customers as appropriate, and keep the customer informed of developments.
  • Coordinate and liaise with the Duty Control Manager, Engineering and Operational on-call managers.
  • Manage and control the booking-on arrangements and real-time resourcing of all Train Managers and groundstaff, including recording all reasons for plan deviation or extra hour allocation.
  • Monitor traction resources that are in service ensuring that any deviation is fully assessed to ensure most economic use of available traction, with minimal effects on maintenance plans.
  • Work in conjunction with all areas of the business to deliver GBRf business safely, and in the most cost effective way.
  • Work with Contract Managers to deliver services where they run late.
  • Maintain regular updates for possession work and mitigate any delays.

Qualifications

We are looking for individuals with the below qualifications and qualities:

  • Strong IT skills
  • GCSE in Maths and English, or equivalent
  • Confident and proactive
  • High attention to detail
  • Interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Time management skills
  • Knowledge of Van tracking software, TOPs, crewplan, TRUST and voyager-plan

Desirable Skills

  • Railway planning experience
  • Geographical knowledge
  • Experience in a rail industry environment
