Lead Mechanical Engineer – Parcel Systems

The Lead Mechanical Engineer – Parcel Systems is part of a cross-discipline project team, responsible for the successful and on-time completion of parcel equipment upgrade and system integration projects, with a strong emphasis on meeting UPS specifications and business practices. They work closely with other mechanical engineers, project managers, electrical and controls engineers, installation teams, permit specialists, and various support roles.

The Lead Mechanical Engineer is the technical expert for the Parcel Systems business segment as well as executing assigned projects. Within this segment they are the subject matter expert and responsible for training, mentoring, process improvement, quality controls, and are the primary liaison with other teams outside of active project specific bounds.

For assigned projects they are responsible for the successful execution of all tasks related to mechanical engineering on the project. These include engineering schedule, concept design, equipment manifests, equipment and material selection, creating material requisitions and securing bids in support of procurement, creation of installation drawings, field support, project documentation, and overall adherence to customer and governing agency specifications. This role will, in most cases, be assigned a team of either in-house or subcontracted designers to support the creation of installation drawings and other various tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: Responsible for the successful engineering and implementation of scope of projects as outlined above. Ensure all designs and deliverables meet parcel customer standards, with particular focus on UPS engineering specifications and operational practices.
  • Technical Subject Matter Expert: Document, formalize, and expand the engineering team’s expertise, particularly in relation to Parcel Systems integration for customers such as UPS, FedEx, and Amazon.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive ongoing improvement in our capabilities by training, mentoring, creating tools and processes, and ensuring consistency with evolving customer and industry standards.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Partner with other departments—including Sales, Applications, Technical Support, R&D, and Product Development—to leverage knowledge and identify new opportunities.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • (7+) years of experience in material handling equipment design. Must include experience leading Automated Systems integration for customers in the Parcel Logistics space such as UPS, FedEx, and Amazon.
  • Deep knowledge of UPS specifications, engineering standards, and approval processes.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk software (AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault, Recap, Navisworks, and BIM) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proven mentoring and leadership skills, with experience developing less-tenured engineers in parcel system design and integration.
  • Commitment to fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Critical thinking, prioritization, and creative problem-solving abilities.

The base salary range for this role is $100,700 to $151,100. This base salary range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position. Actual base salary offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.
