Advance the Mass Strategy through the application of systems engineering principles in collaboration with the Vehicle Dynamics, Global Trailer Tow, Body and Chassis Engineering, Fuel Economy and Emissions, Aerodynamics, Perform and Safety Engineering teams.
Create and manage the Mass and Load Capabilities Strategy to provide a competitive position against other OEM products.
Advocate for the implementation of the strategy with senior management.
Perform Mass Property predictions utilizing Ford processes for parametric and analytical methods.
Determine the mass distribution and inertia characteristics that are primary inputs for all subsequent modeling and analysis, including Structural, NVH, Ride and Handling, Crash and Rollover Safety.
Provide mass calculations for Vehicles Loads and ground reactions in various loading conditions.
Manage data in support of legal labeling and spring selection.
Perform calculations of all Masses and Ratings required on Regulatory Load Rating Labels and for legal Homologation for global markets.
Ensure the Vehicle Platform is capable and compatible with all consumer content described in Program Direction and Marketing documentation. Provide strategic direction to the Program Team to resolve any incompatibilities and ensure customer satisfaction and legal compliance.
Perform statistical analysis of vehicle and commodity level mass measurements.
Determine the level of data integrity and finalize analysis in support of compliance demonstration.
Evaluate failure modes in the verification process and lead projects to remediate.
Lead the Vehicle Mass Witness Testing required for globally homologated vehicles.
Occasional travel to assembly plants or global engineering worksites may be a possibility.
Author recommendations to Program, Certification Engineering and federal labeling requirements.
Collaborate with Safety and Environmental Engineering on inquiries from global legal authorities, including ECC Technical Services (Europe), NHTSA/EPA (North America), CTARC (China).
Support Marketing requirements for public facing mass information.
