Team Lead – Engineering Development Group

FMC Agricultural Solutions is seeking a Team Lead Engineer to head the Engineering Development Group (EDG) at our Stine R&D facility. This role is critical to advancing innovation in agrochemical discovery by leading the design, development, and deployment of custom research equipment, processes, and technologies that support high-impact discovery research in Crop Protection.

The EDG provides specialized engineering support to R&D discovery programs by creating novel tools, systems, and processes that enhance research effectiveness, precision, and throughput. The group focuses on experimental design and custom fabrication—ranging from unique electromechanical assay systems to automated equipment and innovative consumables used in controlled environment research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of custom equipment, systems, and processes from concept through to operational deployment.
  • Design and prototype innovative tools and technologies to support biological, chemical, and formulation research.
  • Conduct experimental evaluations to validate design concepts and system performance.
  • Oversee CAD design, fabrication, and assembly of prototype equipment with internal and external partners.
  • Provide engineering calculations, system sizing, and technical specifications to support project planning.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including scientists, engineers, and external vendors, to ensure project alignment with research goals.
  • Support internal equipment deployment and provide technical assistance and troubleshooting for R&D operations.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders across technical and non-technical backgrounds.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Agricultural, or related Engineering field.
  • 5–10 years of experience in engineering R&D, ideally in agriculture, agrochemical, or controlled environment systems.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, electromechanical systems, robotics, fluidics, and automation technologies.
  • Proficiency in CAD design and CAM programming; experience with custom fabrication and machining practices.
  • Working knowledge of agricultural application systems (spraying, seeding), control systems, sensing technologies, and telemetry.
  • Demonstrated project leadership and ability to manage multiple priorities from concept through implementation.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong technical acumen and a practical, hands-on approach to engineering problem-solving.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and deliver outcomes within scope and timeline.
  • Excellent planning, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with commercial mechanical components and systems-level thinking in electromechanical design.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering functional, high-quality solutions that support scientific innovation.
