VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR I OPS - 60953545

This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Vocational Instructor I OPS within Rehabilitation Services. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • This position requires lifting, pulling and squatting. Duties of this position require the incumbent to be knowledgeable of and utilize the principles of Total Quality Management.
  • This is work involving the skilled vocations of inventory and warehouse management, stock management and general utility maintenance and care and use of materials handling equipment for Florida State Hospital, encompassing 5000 plus items for a major institution. This position is responsible for inventory maintenance of clean laundry and linen.
  • Instructs Department of Corrections Inmates in the daily utilization of commercial washers and dryers, hand carts and pallet jacks. This includes managing the storage of the commodities on racks and other storage areas.
  • Daily utilization of inventory and warehouse control techniques. This includes analyzing supply levels, inventory management, assuring proper stock rotations and completing supply requisitions to replenish depleted stock. Instruct and train Department of Corrections Inmates to issue and deliver supplies to the Units and Departments daily.
  • Packaging and loading carts and/or pallets for shipping and delivery of items, including proper handling of hazardous chemicals or products is conducted on a daily basis. Drives delivery vehicles as required making deliveries to various units and departments within Florida State Hospital.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly stock storage area. Train Department of Corrections Inmates on and adhere to all applicable OSHA and Fire and Safety rules and regulations as a part of the overall daily receiving and supply management process.
  • Receives and checks merchandise with Purchase Order ensuring proper receipt and locates proper storage areas for items received. Maintains a file on all Purchase Orders and Receiving Reports for their inventory.
  • Orders replacement inventory, manages vendor relations, and completes follow-up on pending orders and deliveries.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position:

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Knowledge of a vocational skill such as cosmetology, clothing repairs or laundry operations.
  • Skill in performing a vocation such as cosmetology, clothing repairs or laundry operations.
  • Ability to work in a training capacity with people in individual and group settings.
  • Ability to collect, record and evaluate data relating to the training of individuals.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and other instructional materials.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to speak clearly and correctly to individuals and groups.
  • Ability to listen effectively.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to vocational instruction.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and one year of experience in the occupational area being taught as defined by the employing agency.
  • College education from an accredited institution or vocational/technical training in the occupational area being taught, as defined by the employing agency, can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for the required experience.

Preference will be given to applicants who have:
