The work you will do includes administering the statewide Traffic Studies Program, coordinating with District personnel, performing updates to Department manuals, assisting with the development of traffic control devices, conducting special traffic and safety studies, representing the Traffic Engineering & Operations Office on technical committees, providing expertise on highway signing, serving as a project manager for research and reviews, providing training to Districts, and reviewing consultant pre-qualifications.

Where you will work is at the FDOT – Barry Building, Traffic Engineering & Operations Office, 3185 S. Blair Stone Road, Tallahassee, FL 32311.
Your specific responsibilities include developing and administering the statewide traffic studies program, assisting District personnel, leading statewide traffic study group meetings, serving as the Department’s highway signing technical matter expert, performing revisions and updates to manuals, assisting with the development and implementation of new traffic control devices, conducting special traffic and safety studies, representing the Traffic Engineering and Operations Office on technical committees, providing technical expertise on traffic signals, midblock crosswalks, and criteria for supplemental highway signing, providing technical expertise on speed zone requirements, applications of speed management techniques, traffic signal warrants, and other traffic control devices, serving as a Project Manager for research and reviews on special projects, providing training on traffic engineering topics, administering Traffic Operations Professional Engineer Phase exams, assisting with reviewing legislative bills, and reviewing Consultant pre-qualifications.
The successful candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: knowledge of traffic engineering principles and practices, knowledge of traffic operations analysis, safety analysis and study techniques, knowledge of traffic engineering computer analysis and simulation programs, knowledge of the operation of traffic signal and intelligent transportation system equipment, skills in performing project management duties, including managing budgets for projects, skill in effective oral and written communications, ability to develop and deliver technical training, ability to manage workload to produce on time projects, ability to work with diverse groups of people, and ability to use the Department’s computer programs.
Licensure/Registration/Certification requirements include Florida Registered Professional Engineer in accordance with 471, F.S. Other job-related requirements include responding before, during, and following emergency situations.
Minimum qualifications include registration as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Florida Statute 471.
