PARK SERVICES SPECIALIST

This position is located in Port St. Joe, Florida. T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park is looking for a self-motivated, dedicated, and passionate park service professional to fill a vacant Park Services Specialist position. This is a heavily resource management focused position. This position's primary responsibilities will be establishing and maintaining resource management activities for the park including invasives & exotics control, management of the Sea Turtle program, Beach Mice program, Prescribed Fire Program, Shorebird Monitoring, Cultural Resource site management, and overall management of the park's 1,700 acre Wilderness Preserve. The position is also responsible for providing visitor education and services, and for maintaining and improving operations and facilities. An employee-owned site is available.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance - Constructs, maintains and repairs small buildings, fences, trails, service roads, bridges, pavilions, restrooms and all other necessary facilities. Responsible for park inspections and prioritizing needs. Maintain cleanliness of grounds and facilities. Ensure preventative maintenance is conducted and documented on all facilities, vehicles and equipment; Operates a variety of equipment including chainsaws, lawn mowers, tractors, power trimmers, blowers, utility vehicles, trailers and motor vehicles. Develops scope of work for repair projects.
  • Resource Management – Recognizes and is knowledgeable of the various natural communities located within the park. Recognizes exotic plant and animal species that occur within the park. Recognizes communities and maintains optimum species control via natural and chemical means. Participates in planning and conducting resource management activities by implementing resource management techniques required to manage and restore natural communities, including but not limited to, exotic plant and animal control, habitat restoration and imperiled species management.
  • Visitor Services – Explains the facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment and education; meet visitors, answer questions, provide information assistance and directions. Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations and upholding the Florida Park Service image.
  • Administration - Abides by fiscal and purchasing procedures and policies and generates a variety of reports with accuracy and precision. Maintains a record of projects and activities which occur on park property including maintenance schedules and records.
  • Protection – Ensures Park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical and archaeological facilities and resources and use thereof for the enjoyment of park visitors. Conducts and documents safety assessments and reduces known hazards. Produces incident reports and safety analyses.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Florida ecosystems and resource management techniques required to manage natural communities and imperiled species
  • Skill in using tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work
  • Ability to handle computer and cash register transactions and reconciliation of receipts, prepare maintenance logs and related correspondence
  • Ability to research, plan and prepare educational interpretive and promotional materials and programs
  • Ability to compile, organize and analyze data, programs and proposed projects
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to work outside in harsh weather conditions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Successfully complete a background and fingerprint check

Pay: Base salary $3,176.43 monthly/ $38,117.16 annually
