Ops Education And Training Specialist - 64967042

This is a part-time OPS position that will work 24 hours per week. This position coordinates the youth prevention component, Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT), of the statewide comprehensive Tobacco Prevention and Control Program by planning youth meetings, recruiting and retaining youth in the SWAT organization. This position requires the ability to work independently and to work with both youth and adults. Public speaking, public relations, and computer skills are required. This position is required to work some weekends, evening hours, out of town travel for training, and chaperone youth for state and regional youth meetings.

The incumbent of this position will develop educational materials, including but not limited to PowerPoint presentations, will facilitate workshops to inform and engage students about the dangers of tobacco use and the importance of prevention strategies. Will work with youth to develop youth trainings and events throughout the county. This position will work closely with schools, community organizations, and student groups to promote a tobacco-free lifestyle while assisting with advocacy and policy implementations related to tobacco prevention.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design engaging PowerPoint youth presentations and educational materials on tobacco prevention.
  • Conduct workshops and presentations in schools and community settings
  • Collaborate with students to form, support, and maintain SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) teams in various schools and county chapter.
  • Organize and execute participation in events, campaigns, and activities focused on tobacco prevention awareness and advocacy.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of educational materials and initiatives, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, schools, and community organizations to foster partnerships that support tobacco prevention efforts.
  • Stay updated on current tobacco prevention research, trends, and best practices to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Assist in advocacy efforts and the implementation of policies aimed at reducing tobacco use among youth.

This position will require cross training and perform other duties assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience related to health equity, social determinants of health, and cultural competency.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document workflow and other activities relating to the improvement of operational and management practices.
  • Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to independently plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internally and with community partners.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Required - Valid Driver's License
  • Required - High School Diploma/equivalent
  • Preferred - Experience working with youth planning and organizing prevention activities/programs such as but not limited to: SWAT
  • Preferred - Experience with public speaking and/or presentations
