Annual Salary Range: $117,321.61 - $151,827.96

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance to internal and external customers in the area of structures construction, inspection, and contract administration.
  • Keep abreast of the latest technologies and innovations in the area of structures construction, inspection, and contract administration.
  • Review and provide guidance for resolution of nonconforming workmanship, materials, inspection practices, and testing practices to ensure contract compliance.
  • Provides technical advice and guidance to Districts in resolving complex structural problems that occur during construction.
  • Responsible for developing/improving structure policies based on "lessons learned" and feedback obtained from districts and consultants.
  • Assists the SDO Plans Review Group in development and approval of Category 2 consultant produced bridge design projects from initial concept to preparation of final contract documents.
  • Develop, review and update policies, procedures, and specifications related to the area of structures construction, inspection, and contract administration as needed to ensure consistency and compliance with Florida Statues, Department policies, federal laws, FHWA (Federal Highway Administration) and other applicable Department requirements.
  • Perform Process Reviews in the area of structures construction, inspection, and contract administration in accordance with CPAM (Construction Project Administration Manual).
  • Perform on-site inspection of post-tensioned structures during construction to ensure structure construction is in accordance with the governing contract specifications.
  • Assists the SDO Plans Review Group in reviewing project specific design criteria from Request For Proposal and Concept Plan inception through project procurement for design-build and Phased design-build projects that contain Category 2 bridges.
  • Serve on and chair task teams and working groups that involve Central Office, Districts, FHWA, contract and consulting industries and other state agencies. Assist in planning, participate in, and give presentations at conferences and workshops to a variety of audiences.

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • structures construction, construction inspection, design, or contract administration practices, methods, and techniques.
  • concrete and steel materials, testing, and specifications.
  • steel erection and fabrication practices, methods, techniques, and specifications.
  • cast-in-place and precast, prestressed concrete construction practices, methods, techniques, and specifications.

Skills in:

  • proficiently use computer software such as Microsoft Office.
  • communicate technical information in writing and verbally in an easy to understand manner.
  • write effective, coordinate, and interpret specifications, policies, procedures, reports and other technical documents.
  • develop positive working relationships and provide leadership in diverse groups.

Ability to:

  • identify what needs to be accomplished, to take initiative, and work independently.
  • multi-task and establish priorities.
  • participate in and facilitate conflict resolution.

Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:

  • Registration as Professional Engineer pursuant to Chapter 471, Florida Statutes

Other Job-Related Requirements:

  • This position will be required to respond before, during and following emergency situations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registration as Professional Engineer pursuant to Chapter 471, Florida Statutes. And two years of post-registration Experience
