Human Services Worker I Ops
The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida's social services agency. Schedule may vary based on department needs. This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as a Human Services Worker I - Ops within Rehab Services. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. This role requires the use of independent judgment, a proactive approach to responsibilities, and exceptional attention to detail. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Providing residential care, assisting with enrichment activities and supporting the treatment, psychiatric rehabilitation, stabilization and recovery of people with a mental illness.
- Observing people served to learn what type of environment and interactions make them feel safe, secure and calm and to identify distressful stimuli or triggers.
- Communicating with people served to develop a trusting, caregiver relationship and identify signs of distress or health concerns.
- Intervening to separate people served from distressful stimuli and assist in resolving conflict.
- Supporting the health and cleanliness of people served by assisting with personal hygiene tasks, laundry duties, housekeeping tasks, and preparing meal areas.
- Assessing needs and service provision by completing direct care assessments, assisting with meaningful life activities, supporting treatment and psychiatric rehabilitation services, conducting alternative engagement activities, and serving as a personal advocate.
- Documenting behavior, events related to the well-being and recovery of people served, distressful stimuli and triggers, location of people served, discovery of contraband, personal property, personal hygiene practices, vital sign and weight readings, provision of services and information related to SIP objectives, and responses of people served when encouraged to attend activities.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position include:
- Ability to lift, pull, and squat.
- Ability to observe and monitor residents.
- Ability to create a safe recovery environment through use of verbal and non-verbal communication.
- Ability to create a safe recovery environment through use of physical intervention skills.
- Ability to perform and assist residents with personal care and housekeeping skills.
- Ability to document factually and objectively.
- Knowledge of the methods of providing care to others.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to pay attention to details.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Minimum qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age at time of hire.
