Health Support Technician Ops - 60955490

This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Health Support Technician Ops within the Clinical Division. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. This role requires the use of independent judgment, a proactive approach to responsibilities, and exceptional attention to detail. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Performing technical health support duties in the collection and processing of blood specimens.
  • Managing reference laboratory services by ordering tests, processing and packaging specimens, retrieving results, sorting and filing laboratory reports, tracking inventory, and notifying supervisors of any problems.
  • Performing phlebotomy procedures by verifying identification, using proper personal protective equipment, preparing venipuncture sites, selecting appropriate tubes, performing post-phlebotomy care, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Performing laboratory-related clerical duties including ordering supplies, maintaining logs, cleaning and disinfecting laboratory areas, and assisting physicians in ordering lab tests.
  • Scheduling and performing EKGs by notifying staff of pending EKGs, instructing persons served, performing EKGs, and phoning physicians immediately if results fall into critical range.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position include:

  • Knowledge of basic medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
  • Skill in using medical instruments, unit dose equipment, and calibrating liquid unit dosing equipment.
  • Ability to interview patients, follow instructions, keep accurate records, distribute medications, communicate effectively, and establish working relationships.

Minimum qualifications: one year of experience in providing nursing or direct patient care services of a medical nature.

Preference will be given to applicants who have completed a training program to become certified phlebotomists.
