Health Support Technician

The employee in this position will be a member of the Florida Health Department in Miami-Dade County Tuberculosis Control and Prevention Program and will function as a Health Support Technician assisting the nursing and field staff with packaging and distribution of anti-tuberculosis medication in the FDOH in Miami Dade County under the direction of the Community Health Nursing Supervisor. Incumbent will follow Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and information security regulations set by federal, state and local policies to ensure confidentiality and privacy of the client health information.

Reviews prescribed medication in HMS/Mediation profile or E-prescribe for each client diagnosed as a suspect, confirmed active TB disease, infection no disease (LTBI) that have been prescribed anti-tuberculosis medication. Assists the nursing staff by batching labeling and packaging medications for delivery to TB clients. Reviews client-specific prescription orders. Orders client-specific prescription refill of anti-tuberculosis and non-TB (supportive treatment) medications in the FDOH/Central Pharmacy Pharmaceutical Forms System. Ensures that medications are ordered and available for weekly Direct Observed Therapy (DOT). Maintains a Pharmacy Pick-up log for each client and ensures field workers reviews medications ordered and signs log. Returns discontinue medication to FDOH/Central Pharmacy following the Guarantee Return Guidelines within 90 days. Maintains and updates the designed Medication Tracking System by recording receipt and disbursement of all client-specific prescription filled by central pharmacy. Reports to the ACHND any error in RX received from Bureau of Public Health Pharmacy.

Reviews Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH) client's order (Demographic form) with Nurse Case Manager. Attends JMH Case managing meeting. Picks up medications from JMH's pharmacy and/or ADAP AND ensures that medications are available for the JMH DOT's clients. Maintains a Pharmacy Pick-up log for each client and ensures field workers reviews medications ordered and signs log.

Conducts and/or ensures inventory is conducted monthly in all three clinic sites. Orders and ensures there is an adequate supply of nurse issuances medications to all 3-clinic sites. Scans or ensures all Nurse Issuance medication that are provided to the TB clients are scan from PFS/HMS Integration ensuring that inventory is kept updated. Ensures that all nurse issuance medications are rotated per expiration dates and that medication is pulled from the shelves before expiring.

Conducts monthly accurate audit of pharmaceutical dispense from medication room to final destination in HMS Medication Tracking system. Provides reports to ACHND and Health Services Manager. Follows up on client's Estimated Date of Completion (EDC) in HMS/Medication Plan prior to ordering refills. Review with Nurse Case manager (NCM) to ensure EDC in HMS/Medication Plan is correct.

Maintains a clean, safe and sanitary condition in the medication packaging room. Checks Refrigerator temperature daily and maintaining a daily temperature log of the Refrigerator. Ensures Medication room is secured always and allows authorized personnel only to enter the Pharmacy room.

Submits all timesheets (People First), EAR's other DOH paperwork by required deadlines and complies with program's protocols for calling out sick, tardiness and/or leave request. Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) call down list, etc. Email communications must be maintained daily.

Participates in a documented programmatic and/or agency QI Project and/or QI related activity. Attends and participates in team meetings and team building activities, in services, and conferences as required. Preceptors' new public health nurses and/or students. Assists with orientation of and training of students and staff.

Performs other related duties as necessary.

Ability to collect and complete medical information for the appropriate clinic and/or medical personnel and communicate effectively with clients; ability to complete and write statistics quotidianly and monthly; ability to interview patients and obtain a complete medical history; knowledgeable of basic computer software; ability to organize and keep accurate medical records and various clinic logs; knowledge of ambulatory clinical environments.

Minimum - Experience working in infectious diseases such as Tuberculosis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, or HIV/AIDS.
