The Division of Engineering is responsible for providing recommendations pertaining to technical issues coming before the Commission. Issues may include evaluation of engineering capital cost estimates and actual utility plant expenditures, establishment of adequate margins of reserve, and analysis of operating and maintenance costs. Additionally, the Division is responsible for cost-effectiveness determinations, taking into consideration the impacts on Florida's consumers, regulated industries, and the regulatory environment.

Description of Job Duties: Assists with the analysis and evaluation of utilities' gas distribution systems to ensure that adequate safety measures are taken to protect the public from hazards. Assists with the evaluation of gas distribution equipment and apparatus to ensure appropriate design, materials and application. Determines if installations comply with state and federal rules. This is a highly responsible position with statewide duties that can be done through telecommuting from the Miami District and would require a valid driver's license, responsible for scheduling meetings with utility representatives, overnight/daily travel, preparing travel reimbursement expense forms, minor fleet vehicle maintenance, and comply with PHMSA natural gas safety guidelines. Extensive vehicle travel is required, including occasional overnight trips, to conduct gas safety field inspections. A state-owned vehicle will be provided for these inspections which would require having a secure space to park the vehicle at your home/work location. This position requires the incumbent to be subject to irregular work hours and call-outs for emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in natural sciences or engineering and at least one year of verifiable related experience; OR any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience, as described above, for a total of five years. Must have successfully completed Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) Natural Gas Training and obtained certification. This position covers territory within south and central Florida (Miami District) and candidates will need to reside in either Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach counties.
