This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as an OPS Behavioral Health Consultant within the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program Office. This position will collaborate with each section within the program office and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Actively establish relationships with Child Protective Investigators in co-located office space.
- Educate Child Protective Investigators and dependency case managers on the identification of behavioral health disorders with an emphasis on opioid use.
- Support the investigative staff and dependency case managers in understanding the effects of the behavioral health issue on parent/caregiver behavior. Assist investigative staff and dependency case managers in understanding the signs and symptoms of opioid disorders and the best practices to engage and treat.
- Educate Child Protective Investigators and dependency case managers on the use of medication-assisted treatment (MAT).
- Assist in the field and provide office consultation during pre- or post-commencement when there is an open investigation with a suspected or identified behavioral health need.
- Actively demonstrate engagement techniques with the family when in the field with investigative staff.
- Partner with the investigative staff to provide consultations to assist in identifying danger threats, adult functioning, parental protective capacities (diminished or present), and safety management services.
- Maintain a working knowledge of community mental health and substance use providers.
- Work collaboratively with community service providers and the ME to develop contacts, facilitate referrals, and assist investigative staff with engaging clients in recommended services and improving timely access to treatment.
- Track the referrals and entry into treatment for parents with behavioral health disorders, especially with a substance misuse disorder.
- Support investigators in mitigating behavioral issues and crises.
- Participate in legal, multi-disciplinary, and any other meetings that will assist the investigative staff and families.
- Deploy to communities affected by natural disasters within 24-48 hours of impact to represent the organization to promote and implement post-disaster services.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position include:
- Knowledge of the child welfare system and motivational interviewing
- Knowledge/understanding of the impact of substance use disorders and mental health conditions on parenting ability and child safety.
- Strong writing skills as evidenced by an ability to draft reports or presentations.
- Ability to identify the nature or problems associated with access to treatment services.
- Ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to produce quality written products within short deadlines.

Minimum qualifications:
- Florida license in the areas of psychology, social work, mental health counseling, family and marriage therapy or registered intern, or master's level Certified Addiction Professional.
- Three years of experience treating substance use disorders.
