The work you will do: Traffic Safety Program Engineer / District Traffic Operations. Your specific responsibilities include: supervising employees, planning and directing workloads, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with subordinate staff, providing direction and training and instruction and techniques necessary to safely perform their assigned tasks, advancing the safe system approach to implementing Florida's strategic highway safety plan at the district level, advocating the department's target speed, complete streets, and target zero initiatives, recommending and informing strategic safety investments, and enhancing the highway safety funds usage by leveraging other fund types to include safety enhancements in projects and implement other innovative safety education and/or enforcement activities.

The successful candidate will have the following required knowledge, skills, and abilities: knowledge of traffic engineering practices and policies, management principles and practices, personnel policies and procedures; skills in traffic safety analysis and study techniques, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting engineering data, the supervision and instruction of others, identifying and documenting personnel performance, effective communication both in written form and orally, contract management and negotiation, and the use of computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentations applications, email and internet; ability to lead and manage diverse groups of people performing multiple tasks, manage workload to produce on-time resolutions to problems, counsel and plan employee career development, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and effectively supervise others.

Licensure/registration/certification requirements: registration as a professional engineer in accordance with chapter 471, Florida statutes.

Other job-related requirements: responsible for adhering to the provisions and requirements of section 215.422. F.S., related state comptroller's rules, and department of transportation's invoice processing and warrant distribution procedures. Employee will be required to be responsive to emergency situations within a very short timeframe and serve in the transportation emergency management team.
