Job Title
Responsible for leading a team of Underwriting and Portfolio Management teammates to deliver quality credit analysis, transaction underwriting, and ongoing portfolio management for automotive dealer relationships. Portfolio includes specialized industry needs and structural considerations. Leads the day-to-day operation of the designated team, focused on consistent execution of the credit process, related activities and behaviors. Assumes overall responsibility for all underwriting and portfolio management results within the team. Includes strategic decision making around structure of the team, hiring and recruiting, training need and development, system enhancements, etc. Responsible for executing strategic changes. Actively participates in, and may lead, projects aimed at improving efficiency and effectiveness of the portfolio management organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Ensures the development and retention of engaged, industry leading teammates who are building critical skillsets to meet PM role expectations through regular 1x1 conversations, training, coaching and mentoring as well as inspection. Demonstrates leadership in developing and enhancing strong partnerships with key stakeholders across the organization.
- Support revenue and return growth objectives through strong partnership and communication in the identification, screening, prioritization and consistent underwriting of opportunities. Oversees all underwriting activity in the portfolio and influences client acquisition decision by actively participating in screen meetings. Brings expertise to transactions. Actively manages pipeline for new and renewing opportunities, workflow and issue resolution, keeping all stakeholders proactively informed to ensure expected timelines are met.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Partner closely with Relationship Management and Credit Risk to ensure effective delivery of complex financing solutions to commercial automotive dealer clients through industry specific lens; responsible for maintaining extensive level of knowledge of commercial and middle market banking solutions, in addition to market trends and business drivers. Understands and articulates industry trends, patterns in the economy, and the implications thereof, and proactively shares information across the PM organization.
- Has an extensive and thorough knowledge of the group's portfolio as well as franchised automotive industry/market and is the primary point person for providing updates and guidance on issues and trends. Works closely with stakeholders in proactively managing the portfolio and identifying industry trends.
- Manages all internal and external portfolio reviews – Credit Review, Internal Audit, SNC, and FRB exams.
- Ensures on-time performance of portfolio management practices, such as financial statement collection, covenant compliance, annual relationship reviews, compliance reviews, and portfolio review meetings.
- Span of Control: Span of control generally includes 10-17 direct reports. Partners and interaction points include Line of Business, Credit Risk, Credit Risk Review, Clients, Technology, Compliance, etc.
- Decision-Making and Autonomy: has high degree of autonomy in decisions; has oversight and accountability for all activities within team.
- Problem Complexity: Very complex Leadership / Influencing / Negotiating / Persuading: Yes, teammates in this position are required to exercise an independent point of view and provide recommendations to appropriate decision makers.
- Project or Program Management: Yes. This position runs ad hoc projects generally associated with regulatory, risk, and compliance issues.
- Nature and Area of Impact, including Risk: Yes, teammates in this position are required to execute with an independent point of view, make decisions, and provide recommendations as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years of experience in middle market and/or automotive dealer services underwriting, portfolio administration, and loan credit decision making
- Subject Matter Expert level understanding of accounting and finance, financial statement analysis, and financial projections
- Mastery level proficiency with MS Office Desktop applications.
- Strong interpersonal skills and solid written/verbal communication are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA, CFA or other advanced degree.
- Leadership experience in Commercial or Middle Market Banking portfolio management
