Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Engineer Systems Architect to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Systems Engineering organization. This position will be located on-site in Melbourne, Florida. The Principal Engineer Systems Architect will design system architectures, define key capabilities and requirements, and establish technology constraints and external interfaces in line with customer needs. The individual will help maintain the engineering model, developing structure and behavior diagrams that describe the system architecture and design, and collaborate with other IPTs to obtain the information and data needed in the model.

We are looking for innovative thinkers who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are comfortable with multi-tasking, prioritizing tasks, giving verbal presentations, and self-educating without direct supervision. The candidate must have a firm understanding of traditional systems engineering concepts and methodologies and must be able to apply and adjust these concepts and methodologies to an accelerated process in the early stages of the engineering design. The candidate must be familiar with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), be able to work within an agile environment, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the cross-functional teams to create conceptual data models and data flows
  • Design, develop, and document systems that contain logical solutions using Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Review modifications of existing systems for cross-compatibility
  • Implement data strategies and developing physical data models
  • Coach team members on developing the requirements, architecture, design, and implementation in the model
  • Perform Systems Requirements analysis
  • Management of requirements, include decomposition, allocation, verification, and validation

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline AND 5 years of related professional/military experience, OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 3 years of related professional/military experience, OR a STEM Ph.D. AND 1 year of related professional/military experience.
  • Must have experience developing model-based systems engineering products and/or Mission Engineering.
  • Must have experience modeling software systems and software system of systems.
  • Must have experience with Systems engineering tools (i.e. Cameo Suite) and Agile framework.
  • Must have experience with RNP and RNAV navigation specifications
  • Must have an active DoD Interim Top Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Modeling and Simulation
  • Applied knowledge of aircraft design
  • Experience in the military aerospace development environment is preferred
  • Experience in integrating complex system across multiple domains
  • Experience demonstrating concepts to management and customers
  • Experience with Cameo Magic Draw or another MBSE tool such as Rhapsody, Sparx EA, and Enterprise Architect
  • Experienced developing various DODAF view artifacts, especially Operational and functional viewpoints, using MBSE tools like CAMEO

Primary Level Salary Range: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
