Skyway Fishing Pier State Park is looking for a self-motivated park service professional to fill an OPS Park Ranger position. The applicant must possess good visitor service and administrative skills, be willing to work independently and have the ability to perform a variety of skilled trade functions using assorted equipment and tools. The applicant must be willing to work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. This is a 40 hour a week position. This is a rewarding and challenging opportunity to contribute to community engagement and conservation actions at the Skyway Fishing Pier State Park. Specific duties for this position will involve communicating fishing pier best practices and seabird stewardship on and around the pier.
Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.
Ability to work effectively and efficiently with members of the public in a professional, tactful and courteous manner. Ability to work outdoors in hot and humid conditions. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to speak in public. Ability to provide technical assistance and customer service to the public, including response to entanglement situations and help anglers rescue entangled seabirds according to rules and regulations. Ability to maintain a valid drivers' license. Ability to successfully complete background and fingerprint check. Ability to properly wear uniform. Skill in pier angling experience. Skill in accurately preparing reports. Prior experience with community organizing or outreach and education is a plus.
Valid Driver's license. Position of Special Trust Requirement: This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.
