Public Health Biostatistician

The Public Health Biostatistician conducts special studies, research projects, and complex data analyses to inform public health initiatives and evaluate program effectiveness. This position leads independent research initiatives, collaborates with academic partners, and provides advanced statistical consultation for priority state health questions.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct complex analytical and epidemiological studies addressing public health priorities.
  • Develop research protocols and statistical analysis plans for multiple projects, including developing institutional review board applications.
  • Manage research projects from conception through completion and dissemination.
  • Collaborate with academic researchers and external partners on research initiatives.
  • Conduct sophisticated and advanced statistical analyses potentially including but not limited to, predictive modeling, causal inference, survival analyses, and logistic regression.
  • Match, integrate, and analyze data from multiple datasets.
  • Develop reports and presentations as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of biostatistical methods.
  • Understanding of epidemiological experimental design and methods.
  • Knowledge of research ethics and human subjects' protection.
  • Expert proficiency in statistical programming (e.g., SAS, R and/or Python).
  • Advanced database management and SQL programming skills.
  • Experience with data matching and data quality.
  • Proficiency in data visualization and analytics.
  • Ability to lead multiple complex projects.
  • Skills in coordinating teams and managing external collaborations.
  • Excellent scientific writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex findings to diverse audiences.
  • Experience with peer-reviewed publication and conference presentations.
  • Understanding of public health and epidemiology.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: 5 or more years of experience in applied biostatistics or epidemiological research.
  • Experience leading independent research projects and complex data analysis.
  • Proficiency in advanced statistical methods and programming languages.
  • Strong analytical and scientific writing skills.
  • Experience with multi-source data integration and large datasets.
  • Preferred: PhD in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or related quantitative field.
  • 7 or more years of public health research experience.
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Professional training or education in specialized analytical methods.
