Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders. Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility. Northeast Florida State Hospital is a tobacco free facility.

The incumbent of this position is responsible for assisting Administrative Services by supporting the mission, values, and values of the Northeast Florida State Hospital and delivering core support services to our customers. This position is assigned to the Transportation Department to provide assistance in the daily operation of the facility.
Knowledge of the methods of instructing and providing care to others. Ability to understand and apply the methods and practices used in medical, psychiatric, nursing or child care or in working with developmentally disabled persons. Ability to take and monitor vital signs. Ability to administer routine treatments under medical supervision. Ability to read. Ability to pay attention to details. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to carry out instructions for implementing prescribed treatment plans including behavior modification activities. Ability to instruct others in basic self-care skills. Ability to instruct others in recreational activities. Ability to provide instruction and personal guidance and care to clients. Ability to prepare charts and records. Ability to prepare instructional materials. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
One year of experience working in a medical, psychiatric, nursing or child care setting, or in working with developmentally disabled persons. College or vocational/technical training from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for the required experience.
